How Much Is It to Tint My Car
Tinting your car windows can come at a variety of prices it all depends on who does it and the quality of the material. You have probably seen tinted windows that are pealing of or just odd-looking, like most things the statements – you get what you pay for is true, and it sure does when it comes to tinting car windows!
Now, let's take a look at what i cost to do it at home and compare it to the dealership prices.
Window Tinting Cost at Home
if you are looking to getting your car windows tinted cheaply you can purchase this car tinting kit in addition to this car tint paper by purchasing these two sets you should be able to do the job for under 100$ yourself. However, it's not my recommended things at least if it's your first try, at least watch a dozen youtube videos before you attempt to do so or get a friend with some experience to help you out.
Cost to Tint Car Windows in a Car Dealership
If you choose to get your car tinted in a professional car shop it would set you back anywhere from 199$ to 400$, I know my local car shop takes about 30-50$ per window and then you get a discount if you choose to tint your whole car.
But the price can be both higher and lower than this number so let's take a look at the different types you can get and how this can impact the price. So let's take a look at the different types of tints you can get and what each type would cost you.
Types of tints and their prices
1. Dye Polyester Window Tint
This is the window tint most commonly used in smaller shops and individual tinters. This is a budget-friendly tint, but the saying you get what you pay for is true when it comes to tinting as well.
The Polyester won't provide you with enough protection from the sun and the colors tend to fade over time. This is not the case for all polyester tints since some of them contain metal which results in better sunblock, but the fading color will still be present.
Price:
- 3 Windows : $69 – $100
- 5 Windows : $150 – $200
- 7 Windows : $180 – $250
2. Carbon Based Window Tint
This is a far better option because the polyester material is switched out with carbon which provides far better sunblocking in terms of both UV and IR.
I have personally used this tint for a few of my cars and it hasn't disappointed me yet. The colors stick and as I mentioned earlier the sunblock is perfect.
Pricing
- 3 Windows – $100 – $130
- 5 Windows – $150 – $200
- 7 Windows – $200 – $250
3. Multi-layered Window Tint
The multi-layered window tint is great because you get the benefits of the carbon tint multiplied with 3X providing you with an excellent heat reduction and sunblock.
I have yet to try this myself, but I have been with a few friends who have gotten this installed and it's wonderful.
4. Ceramic Window Tint (A++)
This is expensive, but a supreme option you can get in a few selected dealerships. There is literally no film that can beat a ceramic solution.
With a ceramic window tint, you get a heat reduction you can't get elsewhere, if you decide to invest in this one you will probably never need your AC again.
If you have the money to spend I would highly recommend you to go with the ceramic option since it will save you money in the long term by saving gas and power through not using the AC.
As long as the car dealership has the proper experience you should be better of letting them handle it if you look at the long term cost. If you were to tint the windows yourself you would pay 100$, but how long will it last?
I am sure a dozen of you are able to do this job yourself, with youtube and some patience you can achieve almost anything, but again there is a lot of people who will fail to end up wasting 100$ on a poorly film.
Benefits of letting professionals do the tinting for you
If you are not an experienced or a natural at tinting windows you would be better off letting a mechanic or professional take care of the tinting for you, this is what I found to be true most of the time at least.
The benefit of letting a professional do it is many. Since the car dealership does this job day in and day out they can get bigger volumes of tint in one shipment resulting in a lower cost and higher quality tint for you.
- Higher quality ting
- Usually lasts longer without peeling off
- Looks better
Benefits of Adding Tint to the Car
Now let's see why you would actually tint the car, I know there is a lot of people tinting their car only for the look and I must admit I have done it a few times myself.
The first and most important thing about that tint is that it blocks the UV light coming in from the sun. This protects your eyes but keeps your car color as well.
Check that its legal before you install Tint on the windows
I visited Norway a few years back and noticed that no one had tinted their windows and that was for a good reason, it's illegal. so before you decide to tint your you should do a quick google search to find out if it's illegal or legal in your country, it would be a shame to spend 100$ to later find out you had to remove it.
Conclusion
To get the best filter and quality as possible I recommend you to go to a car dealership, but if you have the equipment and Tint there is nothing wrong with giving it a shot yourself.
I hope you found this article helpful and that you found the prices you were looking for. The most important part in this article is which tint type you should use since this will literally change the game for you in terms of comfort and benefits.
